Private Lessons

As part of the National Association for Music Education at IU’s “Downbeat” program, Patrick taught private lessons to trombone, trumpet, and euphonium students at Batchelor Middle School in Bloomington, Indiana. Batchelor is a Title I school, and the Downbeat program is designed to give under-resourced students access to free private lessons.

In addition to his work with NAfME, Patrick maintains a small private studio teaching mostly middle-school-aged students.

Service & Leadership

Patrick previously served on the executive board of IU’s chapter of the NAfME. In his role as Outreach Coordinator, he helped launch “Downbeat.” Patrick coordinated the operations of “Downbeat” by communicating with partner programs and hiring private teachers.

Patrick has also taught sectionals and has participated in workshops with IU’s chapter of the National Band Association. As a component of NBA's rural outreach program, he had the opportunity to lead low brass sectionals for the premiere performance of Cait Nishimura’s “The Nature of Trees.”

Arranger & Composer

Patrick is a very active arranger and composer. Last year, the IU Marching Hundred included his music in their BOA Grand Nationals exhibition performance at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Marching Hundred also featured Patrick's music in their 2023 homecoming half-time show, and his pep band arrangements are performed weekly for over 17,000 basketball fans in IU’s historic Assembly Hall. Patrick also has extensive experience writing music for concert band and chamber ensembles.

Audio & Video Technology

Patrick uses technology to help teach and motivate students. In 2020, he began making multitrack videos of his arrangements for YouTube. Below are examples of his work.
